Thanks to the move to June, the Detroit Auto Show gives a gift to the attendees of the annual Consumer Electronics Show. Our January Sketchbattle Pro can now take place in a warmer climate and be exposed to a new and exciting audience. Tomorrow, January 7th, at The Industrial Space (2330 S Industrial Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89102) at 7pm, the doors open for Sketchbattle Pro #19.
If you have never been to a Sketchbattle, let us tell you a little about what to expect. World-class talented designers compete head-to-head live in front of the audience in The Fight Club of Design. Each Round they are given 30 minutes to create a sketch from scratch based on the themes they are provided. At the end of the round distinguished judges chose the winners who advance to the next round. At the end of the evening the Sketchmaster is belted.
All of this is done to support charities, in this case the Pro Sketchbattle is supporting Sketchbattle Jr, an education initiative to bring professional design mentoring to students from 12-18 all over the country. Here is an article about our inaugural event in Detroit.
All the usual excitement carries over. 10 sketchers, 3 rounds of 30 minutes each. One winner, $2,500 Grand Prize. What is new are the round themes. Round 1 allows the contestants to imagine and create a single-seat four-wheeled electric commuter vehicle that is entering production in the near future. Myers EV has been working on the concept that promises the thrill of a motorcycle with an ecology to save the planet. Round 2 envisions the charging infrastructure needed to move to an electric vehicle future. And the final Championship round imagines a future where personal flying craft finally eliminate the dreaded workday gridlock and bring a freedom to mobility only available in science fiction stories and movies.
