Night two of Designer Night at the Races™ featured good food, good drinks, great people and some close racing. As usual, it was all for a great cause.
We should start by thanking our great partners; the team at Lacks
and Plastic Plate…
…and the team at Autodesk
But as much as everyone is interested in the competition, I think they all enjoy the camaraderie more.
Is there anything better than working with people you enjoy?
Or spending an evening at the track after a long hard day working with clay?
In the B-Main it was a GM-Ford battle for the top 3 positions as Vlad Kapitanov of GM edged Kirk Bennion of GM by 5 1/2 seconds with Greg Matas of Ford another 5 1/2 seconds behind in 3rd place. Paul Hoste of Chrysler managed the fastest lap at 26.685 but only garnered a 11th place finish.
In the A-Main it came down to another GM-Ford battle which may be a preview of next year’s LeMans battle. Artur Sakaria from Ford was within 50/100th of Max Sullivan of GM’s fastest lap, but could get no closer than 2 and a half second at the end. Kyrylo Ponomarenko from GM rounded out the podium for GM another 9 seconds further behind. David McCall of Ford managed the fastest race lap at 26.388 but was mired back in traffic in 8th place.
The Plastic Plate Team Enduro is the most anticipated race of the evening as the racers split into 3-person teams for a 45 minute endurance race replete with pit stop sand driver’s changes. And it was almost a clean sweep for the first time ever as Ford just missed a 1-2-3 finish. The team that broke it up? Team Chrysler #1 of Brian Lucia, Jesse Schott and James Cronin of Autodesk just beat out Ford #2 comprised of David McCall, Thomas Marminc and Greg Matas. In 2nd place was Ford #3 with Chris Nichols, Josh Greiner and Jeff Chiu of Plastic Plate.
The team that won it all? Ford Team #1. The team that started DEAD LAST!

Rooting your teammates on in the Team Enduro is the usual end of evening activity.
Even though General Motors did not podium in the Plastic Plate Team Enduro, their win in the Heat Race puts them in a slight lead after two nights of racing. But Chrysler and Ford are close behind and Nissan and Toyota will have a large turnout for night #3.
