Just to prove that we don’t always hang out with Designers, we decided to ratchet up the drama and go racing with the Indiana Chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers last month at Fastimes Indoor Karting in Indianapolis, in the racing capital of the world!
If you have never been to the Fastimes track in north Indianapolis, we would highly recommend it. Of all the tracks I have raced at (over 2 dozen at last count), the highest g’s I have ever experienced was during the downhill right and left handed combination as you go from the upstairs to the downstairs portion of the track. Not quite the corkscrew at Laguna Seca, but as close as I have found indoors on this continent.
Over 18 engineers from companies such as Allison Transmission, Beckman Coulter, Cummins, Keihen, and TRW Steering, universities like Rose Hulman and Notre Dame (apologies of we left you out) joined the SAE Indy Staff and sponsors GVS Filter Technology for an evening of networking, socializing, pizza and wheel-to-wheel competition.
In the end, two heats of practice and qualifying set the stage for the final heat races. All levels of competition were on stage, from really fast experienced racers to absolute beginners. But the common thread was the amount of smiles and laughter that rang out through the evening.
As soon as results for the B-Main race are located, they will be posted here. Here is the finishing position for the A-Main:
